A Sense of Place: Contemporary Irish Artist Maureen O’Neill Brings Her Landscape Collection to Showcase

An exploration of landscape, memory and material, translated into a distinctive collection of fine-art prints and beautifully presented cards.

For contemporary Irish artist Maureen O’Neill, landscape is more than a subject to be painted. It is something experienced, remembered and continually reimagined through the process of making art.

Working from her studio in Newport, County Mayo, along Ireland’s Great Western Greenway, O’Neill has developed a distinctive visual language rooted in the changing character of the western landscape. Her semi-abstract paintings explore the relationship between land, atmosphere and memory, drawing on the colours, textures and shifting light of the Atlantic coastline, boglands and surrounding mountains.

Rather than reproducing a particular view, her paintings often begin with an observation or impression of place before developing through an intuitive process of layering, mark-making and experimentation with materials.

The resulting works move between recognition and abstraction, allowing the landscape to emerge without being entirely defined.

From Original Paintings to Collectable Art

At Showcase, O’Neill will introduce a carefully developed collection of fine-art cards and limited-edition prints, bringing the character and individuality of her original paintings into a range of beautifully presented, accessible pieces.

A particular highlight will be a new collection of square-format art cards, selected for their strong compositions, rich surface detail and contemporary colour palettes.

Presented individually with coordinating mounts and envelopes, these pieces have been designed to offer something beyond the traditional greeting card. Each can be enjoyed as a small, collectable artwork, ready to frame and display.

Visitors will also see examples presented as finished framed pieces, demonstrating how these smaller works can become part of a contemporary interior.

Alongside the mounted collection, O’Neill will present a series of five-card limited-edition packs, featuring reproductions of selected paintings. These offer an alternative for customers who appreciate original artwork and thoughtful design in an accessible format.

Art for Contemporary Interiors

Complementing the card collections will be a selection of A4 limited-edition fine-art prints, drawn from O’Neill’s wider painting practice.

Some will be displayed in frames, allowing visitors to experience the work as finished wall art and appreciate its potential within residential, hospitality and commercial interiors.

From restrained, earthy compositions to expressive landscapes filled with unexpected colour, the collection reflects the diversity of O’Neill’s practice while retaining a strong and recognisable artistic identity.

The presentation has been developed with independent galleries, design-led retailers, museum and heritage shops, and interior-focused businesses in mind, offering buyers an opportunity to introduce contemporary Irish art to their customers in a considered and approachable way.

Rooted in the West of Ireland

O’Neill’s artistic practice is closely connected to Greenway Lane Art Studio-Café, the creative space she established on her family farm near Newport.

Combining a working art studio, teaching facilities and café, Greenway Lane has become a place where art, landscape and community meet. Her work as an artist and educator continues to inform her belief that art should be both meaningful and accessible.

With an exhibition history extending from Ireland to Europe and the United States, O’Neill brings an established artistic practice to this new collection.

Her Showcase presentation represents a natural extension of that practice: an opportunity to make contemporary landscape painting available to a wider audience without losing the individuality and integrity of the original work.

Discover the Collection at Showcase

Visitors to Maureen O’Neill’s Showcase display can expect a thoughtfully curated presentation of contemporary Irish landscape art, including mounted square-format art cards, framed examples, limited-edition five-card packs and A4 fine-art prints.

Above all, the collection offers an invitation to experience the landscape differently — not simply as a familiar place, but through colour, texture, atmosphere and the traces it leaves behind.
