Home for the Holidays
This Christmas we’re determined to make up for last year (shush - don’t mention the pandemic) so with the festive season getting well underway we’ve selected some of the brands at Showcase that are guaranteed to create a welcoming atmosphere whatever the time of year.
Copperfish is an award winning family business, based in Co. Wicklow that creates beautiful lighting from salvaged and storm-fallen timber. Established in 2016, the brand is a popular one at Showcase for its unusual lighting made from evocative ‘storied’ wood that comes from old churches or train stations, silent docklands or houses.
Copperfish lamps and lights are sold in leading design and interior stores in Ireland and abroad. The brand has been chosen to visit the prestigious Shoppe Object fair in New York with the Design & Crafts Council Ireland and was shortlisted in the 2020 UK Gift of the Year Awards.
Copperfish will bring a lot of newness to their stand next January at Showcase 2023. Of particular interest to buyers will be a new range of floor, table, wall and ceiling lights using timbers reclaimed from old tenement buildings built by Guinness family in the Liberties area of Dublin’s city centre which are based on the old lanterns of the past and light reflected on copper.
Mourne Textiles was founded in the foothills of the Mourne Mountains by Norwegian textile designer Gerd Hay-Edie whose iconic textile designs and pioneering weaving techniques became a staple of mid-century British design. Collaborations with illustrious furniture and interiors brands Robin Day, Hille and Conran established her lasting influence on the world of weaving.
The brand’s legacy in weaving has been passed down through Gerd’s daughter Karen Hay-Edie herself a master weaver to her son Mario Sierra who currently runs the business. Today Sierra continues the family story and Mourne Textiles continue to produce woven textiles of great beauty at their original mill in the form of luxury home furnishing fabrics, table linens, cushions, blankets and scarves.
Following in the footsteps of his grandmother too, Sierra has embraced opportunities to work with some of the most exciting names in contemporary design, including Margaret Howell, Carl Hansen, Pinch and Twenty Twenty One.
Jerpoint Glass Company
A regular to Showcase over the years, Jerpoint Glass was established by Keith and Kathleen Leadbetter in 1979. Their skill and passion for glass has now been passed onto the next generation and their four grown up children are all involved in the business in some way - from glass blowing to design, marketing to sales.
Based in Co. Kilkenny, Jerpoint is especially renowned for its coloured glass palette - a joyful and practical addition to any home. The ‘Monochrome’ collection is a contemporary one which reflects a consumer trend towards simple, beautiful pieces in more muted colours.
The brand’s ‘Vivid!’ collection is a firm favourite with those who love their colours bright and bold, while the ‘Festival’ collection is perfect for parties and guaranteed to pack a punch whatever the time of year.
