Ones to Watch
We're expanding our Ones to Watch so that each week we can shine a spotlight on some of our favourite brands and businesses. Choosing a brand from each of our three categories, we’ll give you the inside track on the people and the products you need to know for 2023.
FASHION

Amalka Design
Amalka Design is a new Irish sustainable clothing brand founded by Kristina Belejova which produces handmade cool and comfortable clothing. Based in Co. Kilkenny in Ireland's south east, Amalka Design uses linen fabrics sourced in Europe to create a beautiful range of dresses as well as separates including trousers, wrap blouses and corset tops. The ethos behind the brand is to create comfortable, yet stylish, clothing in natural fabrics that can be worn every day. The clothes are currently sold online to an Irish and international customer base. Attending Showcase with the support of the Kilkenny Local Enterprise Office, Belejova hopes to obtain retail stockists for her designs which include her dresses and her collection of linen trousers and tops.

JEWELLERY

Melissa Curry
With stockists over the years that include Le Bon Marche, Galeries Lafayette, Virgin Voyages, EPIC, Brown Thomas, Emporium Kalu and the Design Ireland shop at Terminal 2 Dublin Airport, it’s safe to say that Melissa Curry is one of Ireland’s most well known jewellery designers. The tenacious businesswoman behind this eponymous brand, whose profits were impacted badly during the pandemic due to a drop off in sales with her travel partners, remains undeterred and is back at Showcase 2023. Here she will present her new resort collection alongside her expanded PÓG collection (‘póg’ meaninging ‘kiss’ in the Irish language). Known for her bold designs and use of colour, there is something to suit everyone in Melissa Curry’s collections.

HOME & GIFT

De Gordun
Following on from her success at Showcase 2022, De Gordun founder Hannah-Clare de Gordun will return to the RDS in January with her second home decor collection ‘Midnight Sky’. The range is inspired by the evening hues of an Irish sky and features a deep navy colourway with accents of pink, lilac, blue and yellow. The marbling process ensures that no two pieces in the De Gordun collection are alike - resulting in a series of siimilar, yet unique, products that are nonetheless affordable. The products are handmade from a material called Jesmonite - a light, eco-friendly version of concrete. This on-trend collection includes candlestick holders, bowls and tealight holders. De Gordun will also bring back the ‘Florentine’ collection which features in the campaign shots for Showcase 2023. This monochrome collection with a splash of joyful orange has proven very popular with buyers and will be enhanced by additional items next season.
