Showcase Spotlight: Celtic Tweed founder Cathy Couglan

How did the Celtic Tweed brand come about?
After 35 years in the clothing business, myself and my husband and co-founder Frank Couglan felt the pull to create something more personal - something more rooted in home, heritage and heart. What began as a vision in 2012, has grown into a journey of passion, craftsmanship and discovery. We believe the most beautiful things in life are simple and enduring. Each piece we create is made the long way around by second generation tailors in Dublin - not because it's easy but because it matters. This is clothing made with heart crafted for many lifetimes of wear. For buyers seeking authenticity, story and soul in every stitch – our collection is ready to be discovered.
Tell us about your products
We design and manufacture tweed and linen clothing for both men and women and we’re proud to represent the best of Irish tailoring. Our purpose is to bring the art of Irish craftsmanship to a global stage by creating clothing that embodies beauty, care and contemporary style. We’re committed to delivering a seamless, luxurious experience that reflects Irish warmth and authenticity at every touchpoint with our retail partners. Every piece is made in Dublin, supporting local artisans and ensuring quality at every stitch. Stocking Celtic Tweed offers our customers something truly distinctive -Irish-made luxury with a story woven into every seam.

Where do you get your inspiration?
Our collections are inspired by Irish heritage and culture. Our collections are built around two pillars - Heritage Lines is inspired by Ireland’s proud tailoring traditions and Poets’ Lines is a collection which is infused with the spirit of Irish storytelling and cultural pride.
What are your brand values?
Our goal is to design and craft authentic, sustainable collections in Dublin where timeless style meets modern lifestyle. We strive to offer retailers exceptional quality, artisanal heritage and truly authentic collections for their stores.
What do you like most about what you do?
We adore the making process - from concept through design to creating the finished pieces - each collection is a journey of learning and discovery and to see it all come together is a thrill.
Is this your first time exhibiting at Showcase Ireland? If not, what advice would you give to first time exhibitors?
We first exhibited at Showcase in 2017. My advice to first time exhibitors is to bring a packed lunch and to have your landed price lists ready for international buyers.

Is sustainability an important aspect of your business?
Yes, sustainability is a really important part of our ethos both in terms of preserving the craft of tailoring and in terms of making our clothing sustainably in Dublin. Our collections celebrate the beauty of natural fibres and we are now putting digital product passports on all of our pieces to show our customers exactly how we make each item. Our lifetime repair service also illustrates our desire to make clothing that will become forever pieces in our customers’ wardrobes and the heirlooms of tomorrow.
Where is Celtic Tweed currently stocked?
We sell to retail stores in Europe, USA, Sweden and Canada.
