The Landscape Inspires: Jewellery designer Lynsey De Burca

Where do you get the inspiration for your designs?

Inspiration for the work comes from elements of the west coast of Ireland. I am heavily inspired by the many piers and quays along the coast. Compositions of fishing nets strewn over a wall, the intertwined lines of fishing ropes and the rusted tones of boat chains. I’m also heavily drawn to the patterns and textures seen in rocks which I try to replicate in my work.

How long have you been in business and where are you currently stocked?

We have been in business for about seven years and our work is currently available in a variety of stores around Ireland. You can find our jewellery in boutiques, gallery shops and specialist jewellery stores around Ireland as well as in our online store.

Will you be bringing a new range to Showcase 2022?

We are delighted to bring our new collection Talún to Showcase Ireland this year. ‘Talún’ means ‘land’ or ‘ground’ in the Irish language.

Drawing on the etched markings of crevices and cracks of the Burren limestone, Talún is a collection of textured raindrop link jewellery inspired by the landscape of the west of Ireland.

How has the pandemic influenced how you do business or the design process for you?

During the several lockdowns we have lived through during the pandemic we were able to take a closer look at our surroundings - to explore, to enjoy and to appreciate its features. I was captivated by the beautiful patterns and textures of the Burren Limestone pavements. From the landscape I then went back into the workshop at the foothills of Connemara and the Talún collection was created.

What can trade visitors expect to see when they visit you at Showcase 2022?

This year, we are particularly excited to present our work in person. We are so looking forward to catching up with everyone and meeting exciting potential new clients at Showcase Ireland 2022.

We will be showcasing a few of our carefully curated collections, as well as some new work and classic favourite items. It will also be a fantastic opportunity for our existing clients to see the full collection in one setting. Jewellery should be seen, held and experienced, so there is no better place to do this than at Showcase Ireland in the RDS.
