In Ireland, St Brigid of Kildare was honoured with a new annual Bank Holiday beginning in 2023. This recognition celebrates her remarkable life, her enduring influence on Irish culture, and her legacy of compassion, equality, and faith.

I also see it as a celebration of all the contributions women make to society, how they have faced and overcome countless challenges, and continue to do so with courage and grace.

This sentiment was beautifully expressed by Mary Robinson in her 1990 victory speech after being elected Ireland’s first female president, when she said:

“I was elected by the women of Ireland who, instead of rocking the cradle, rocked the system.”

And so, this piece is a celebration of the 

"Mná na hÉireann" Women of Ireland.
