The Wych Elm is the only native elm in Ireland. It is a wide ranging tree.. They are typically mountainous species preferring moist soils and higher humidity’s, its name in Irish means mountain Elm, sléibhe being mountain
This Elm watch comes from an area in Galway Called Abbeyknockmoy.
Abbeyknockmoy was originally a Cistercian abbey founded in 1190 by the King of Connacht.
